Cultivate the City is hosting a free seedling and seed swap in celebration of Earth Day! Get the perfect start to this growing season and network with other urban gardeners right in your neighborhood. This is a face-to-face event and a great opportunity to not only score some rare seeds or early seedlings to jumpstart your garden, but an excellent chance to talk with other seasoned gardeners and learn about what can grow best in our unique microclimates.
Swap will start promptly at 12:30 so please arrive a little early, and have your seed or seedlings properly labeled. Those who bring seedlings to share will have first dibs, but everyone will get a chance to select something. We will also have a few door prizes donated by partners which will be raffled off to attendees. We plan to wrap up by 1:30, so you'll have the rest of the day to get your seeds started and do some early spring work in the garden! In case you don't find what you are looking for, we will have several seedlings and full size plants that we've kept thriving all winter long, and we have a great new stock of container vegetable and unique hot pepper seeds available for purchase.
We are also hosting a class with Smithsonian Assosciates at 2 PM, on how to make your garden more environmentally friendly, along with a workshop where participants will get to make and take home pollinator seed bombs to make a guerrilla garden! Please follow the link and sign up separately if you would like to participate in that class.
**Any remaining seeds or seedlings from the swap will be donated to local school gardens.
