Vermicomposting / Make Your Own Worm Bin

Description

Participants will learn the basics of vermicompost in a friendly and fun atmosphere. Topics for the class are:

  • Why are worms so useful for composting?

  • Types of worms that will work for vermicomposting

  • How to use vermicompost and its benefits

  • How to brew vermicompost tea and apply it in your garden

  • How to make your own vermicompost bin***

Participants will be able to purchase for $10 the materials to make and take home your own vermicompost bin, complete with live worms!

All participants will receive a fact sheet with all relevant information.

Doors open at 5:30 for social meet n' greet. Feel free to bring your own snacks or beer. Class starts promptly at 6:00 because we have a lot of learning to do!

Conversation and Q & A can continue past 7:00, but may have to migrate to a nearby establishment depending on daily building schedule.

Class is taught by Brian Filipowich, Director of Anacostia Aquaponics and Chair of the national Aquaponics Association. Brian also proudly holds a Master Urban Composter Certificate from DC Department of Parks n' Rec. Class takes place on Cultivate the City's beautiful rooftop farm, above Jenks Hardware Store.
