Bonsai for Beginners *FREE*

  • H. St. Farms 910 Bladensburg Road Northeast Washington, DC, 20002 United States (map)

Still looking for the perfect holiday gift? Learn the fundamentals for turning ordinary houseplants into a living work of art, and have the gift that keeps on giving. This workshop covers the major styles of bonsai along with plant and container selection, branch and root pruning, wiring, and potting. We will also review what type of soil/fertilizer to use for your bonsai as well as regular care and maintenance. Finally learn about repotting bonsai using the "bare-root" technique, so you can enjoy your bonsai for many years to come. Barrty Figard, the president of the Baltimore Bonsai Club and our lead instructor, will also bring 10 display trees from his personal collection and a few extra to work on as a group.

Hands-On Activity (optional, additional fee)

Select a bonsai tree style that fits your selected indoor bonsai plant, prune and wire your bonsai in class and give your plant its first root pruning!
