Seed Swap and Seed Saving 101 with Southern Exposure Seed Exchange!

  • Cultivate the City 910 Bladensburg Road Northeast Washington D.C. United States (map)

Cultivate the City is hosting a seed swap in early celebration of Earth Day in collaboration with Southern Exposure Seed Exchange! Get the perfect start to this growing season and network with other urban gardeners right in your neighborhood. This is a face-to-face event and a great opportunity to not only score some rare seeds or early seedlings to jump start your garden, but an excellent change to talk with other seasoned gardeners and learn about what can grow best in our unique micro-climates. There is a limited enrollment of 50 participants and we expect to sell-out, so be sure to register early!

Swap will start promptly at 12:30 so please arrive a little early, and have your seeds properly labeled. We will take turns selecting seeds through 3 rounds and there are also a few door prizes donated by partners which will be raffled off to attendees. We plan to wrap up by 1:30, so you'll have the rest of the day to get your seeds started and do some early spring work in the garden! In case you don't find what you are looking for, we will have several seedlings and full size plants that we've kept thriving all winter long, and we have a great new stock of container vegetable and unique hot pepper seeds available for purchase.

Following the seed swap, we will have a class on how to save your own seeds led by Anthony Beck from Southern Exposure Seed Exchange!

If you are able to, please consider volunteering to help us on the day of the event. Thank you!

**Any remaining seeds or seedlings from the swap will be donated to local school gardens.
