Seed(ling!) Swap and Potluck Harvest Celebration!

Summer is winding down, but the garden harvests are peaking! Cultivate the City is hosting a Seedling and Seed Swap followed by a garden potluck party to celebrate the end of the outdoor gardening season! This is a great opportunity to score some rare seeds, start planning for 2019 or even jumpstart your winter garden! This event presents an excellent opportunity to learn from and network with seasoned gardeners - one of the best ways to figure out gardening in our unique micro climates. We only have 50 spots for this event, and we're expected to sell-out. Be sure to register early!

The first 20 people to arrive will receive seeds from some of the unique crops our farm produces: Papalo, Bitter Melon, Sour Gherkins, and others will be available!

Schedule:

11:00 AM - 12:00 PM - Seed/Seedling Swap

12:00 PM - 12:30 PM - "Meet Moringa" Demo growing and cooking Class with Victor Julio of Cultivate the City.

12:30- 1 PM - Fit Kids Stage (activities also ongoing during other portions of the event): kids activities, crafts and informal musical exploration/dance with instruments and scarves.

1:00 - 4:00 Potluck and Harvest Season Celebration - stick around and share/enjoy District-grown produce, show off what you've been working all season to grow! Garden fresh cocktails and mocktails Drinks by Charismatic Creations, and Cidre Blanc from ANXO Cidery and Pintxos Bar!

Description:

The swap will start promptly at 11:00, so please arrive early with your seed or seedlings properly labeled. Those who bring seedlings to share will have first choice, though everyone will get a chance to select something. We will also have cool door prizes including District-grown seeds for the first 20 attendees.

The swap will end by 12:00, so you'll have the rest of the day to get your seeds started and do some work in the garden! In case you don't find what you are looking for, we also have several seedlings and full sized plants that we've kept thriving all year long. We have a great new stock of container vegetables, unique hot peppers, and our own DC-grown seeds available for purchase.

After the swap, we'll be hosting a "Meet Moringa" demo-cook classing class. You'll gain an in-depth understanding of this nutrient dense, miracle crop and how you can grow it right here in DC. You'll learn how to prepare the crop and include it in your meals!

At 1:00 pm we are also hosting a potluck and harvest season celebration-you're encouraged to bring a main dish, appetizer or dessert to share with other guests, ideally with at least 1 ingredient from your garden, but not required. If you are attending the potluck though, please come a few minuntes early to setup and don't forget to bring something to share!

This event is made possible by the support of our generous sponsors at Root PouchWS Jenks & SonFit Kids Hit The StageCharismatic CreationsKuli Kuli and our amazing volunteers! If you are able, please consider volunteering to help us on the day of the event.

Thank you!

**Any remaining seeds or seedlings from the swap will be donated to local school gardens.
